Meet Our Team: Jorge M. Ferreira

Being supportive, respectful, and responsible toward our team is part of our mission.

This month, our Manufacturing Manager, Jorge Ferreira, celebrates 1 year at Stemmatters.

Jorge graduated with a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro and kicked off his career as an intern at the Genetics Laboratory located in the Hospital Center of Vila Real. In 2019, Jorge started a new chapter of his career by joining Lonza, where he focused on manufacturing autologous and allogeneic cell and gene therapy (CGT) products for clinical trial applications. Jorge joined us in 2022 as a Manufacturing Manager, to bolster Stemmatters' manufacturing capabilities.

In this #OurTeam “episode” we chatted with Jorge to learn a bit more about her experience during this past year at Stemmatters.

Describe this past year at Stemmatters.
In the past year, I have been involved in the kick-off of CGT projects targeting efficient translation of research products to cGMP manufacturing. The projects include, among others, DCMatters (novel autologous immunotherapy) and CAM-CAR (application of novel automated manufacturing equipment). Additionally, introducing innovative solutions in the manufacturing workflows increased manufacturing efficiency while preserving product quality.

What led you to join Stemmatters?
What led me to join Stemmatters was the company’s positioning in the CGT field and commitment to product quality, as well as the opportunity to collaborate in a fast-paced environment with talented teams.

What’s the best advice you can give to someone who is just starting a career in a life sciences SME?
Be open-minded and willing to try new things. The road to success is often built on top of life and professional experiences, and success itself takes many forms throughout our professional career.
