Meet Our Team: Diogo F. Costa

Being supportive, respectful, and responsible toward our team is part of our mission.

This month, our Junior Scientist, Diogo Costa, celebrates one year at Stemmatters. Diogo holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro and a master’s degree in medicinal chemistry from the University of Minho. His academic journey equipped him with expertise in organic chemistry, pharmacology, and cell culture. Diogo is actively refining his expertise in biomaterials and exploring their applications in advanced therapies.

In this #OurTeam “episode” we had a chat with Diogo to learn a bit more about his experience during this past year at Stemmatters.

Describe this past year at Stemmatters in one small sentence.
This past year has equipped me with the necessary skills to thrive in a biotech company, and I feel privileged to collaborate with tremendously talented co-workers in our day-to-day work at Stemmatters.

Who or what inspired you to pursue the career you have today?
My journey into biomaterials research was inspired by an interest in the intersection of chemistry and healthcare. The innovative nature of designing materials for biomedical applications with the potential to improve people's lives is incredibly rewarding.

What motivates you to continue working at Stemmatters?
As a junior scientist in the R&D team, I am motivated by the opportunity to contribute my chemical expertise to projects that have a direct impact on advancing healthcare technologies. The collaborative spirit and market-oriented environment at Stemmatters keep me engaged and eager to make meaningful contributions.
