Rui is a Full Professor of Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cells at the Department of Polymer Engineering, School of Engineering of University of Minho (UM), being the Director of the 3B's Research Group - Biomaterials, Biodegradables and Biomimetics at the U. Minho in Portugal. His vast research experience covers the development and combination of natural origin biomaterials with stem cells in the context of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
Rui obtained a first degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering by University of Porto and a PhD by Brunel University in 2002. He worked in industry and consultancy settings, where he acquired experience in several business and technology domains. Rui returned to academia in 2005 where he further pursued research interests in tissue engineering and Regenerative Medicine, before integrating Stemmatters. He also holds an MBA and received training in several scientific and management areas.
